Become a Prayer Warrior! - 1 Thessalonians 5:17

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."

I often hear people say "I wish I had more time to spend time with God but there's so much to do everyday I just can't find the time to zone out and pray!" I too used to fall into this viscous cycle of 'busyness' with a 9-5 job, commuting, cooking, cleaning, time with family and friends, etc. and would end up wondering where the day went and think "you know what, tomorrow is a new day and I'll make some time" only to go through the same thing again and again.

One day a very close friend called me up and said "my parents pray so much, they were just cleaning and the house and while dusting the cabinet they're saying 'HALLELUJAH' and 'THANK YOU JESUS' ". This one little phrase shook me and completely changed the way I approached my prayer life!

Let me try and illustrate with Matthew 6:33:

How we're supposed to live - first seek the Kingdom (of God) and (then) all these things shall be added unto you

How we try to live - first seek adding all these things and then try to add the Kingdom of God

It was just that simple - priorities! I started seeing life as prayer first and then trying to revolve my everyday around my prayer time and it became so much clearer and easier. I was praying when I woke up, praying when I brushed, showered, cooked, drove and even while taking short 2 minute prayer breaks every hour during work; I even would sing a worship song or two while cleaning the house or walking to and from the coffee machine at work!

This not only improved my prayer life, it even helped deepen my reliance and relationship on God; things at worked seemed so much less stressful, the commute so much more enjoyable (even on the dreaded highway 401 & if that isn't a miracle, I don't know what is!)

Friends, there always is time to pray; we just need to prioritize God in our lives. Pray in secret and your Father will reward you openly! (Matthew 6:6, shortened)
